Western Blots, organ-on-chip and Excel memes: A work experience at the London Tubular Centre
This week our clinical fellow Beth has been shadowed in the laboratory by a work experience participant, Ricky, through a scheme organised by Autism Hounslow. Together they prepared lysate from HEK-293 cells, performed a Bradford assay for protein estimation, and carried out a Western Blot.
Ricky also observed our postdoc Alessandra during her experiments with collagen I and organ-on-chip systems to create mini kidney tubules on chip!
It was a very enriching experience, for all of us, with a glimpse of what a day in the lab looks like for different scientist and a lot of stimulating discussions, including Excel troubleshooting and meme designing (see last photo in the gallery)!
We wish him all the best in his future career in science!
